Cooling Your Home This Summer

By commercialvacuum

Summer time can become hot, hot, hot and if you do not have some form of air conditioning it can be a miserable three months. Not to mention the fact that when everyone is hot and sticky tempers can quickly flare over nothing. The bottom line is this for most of the areas in this country summer time demands a good cooling unit to keep a home happy and healthy! If you are having problems with your unit this year, you may need a professional to come out and assess your system.

Different Air Units

Air units come in many sizes and configurations, from little window units that will cool a small room to large roof top air conditioners for commercial use. Most people do not have a home large enough to justify the expense of the roof air conditioning units, or RTU however, a complete central heat and air system will work for many people.

Every home and individual has different needs when it comes to a home air conditioning system. Before you hire a contractor to install new air conditioning, it is a good idea to understand the different types to decide which is most suitable for your situation.

5 Types of Air

1. Window Units- Window air conditioners are small to mid size cooling devices manufactured to sit in a window and cool a specific room. These are the cheapest units when it comes to upfront costs but over the long haul, you will spend much more in energy bills. These types of air conditioners are best suited to little used areas or places where another cooler is not feasible.

2. Portable- Along the same lines as window units these are cheap air conditioners that you could theoretically move from room to room. They do not cool a large area and are quite expensive to run. In addition, they can make a mess if you do not stay on top of emptying their reservoirs.

3. Central Ducted- In most new homes today, you will find central heating and air conditioning units. These systems are built to pump warm or cool air through your entire home via ductwork. Central air is by far the best solution for homeowners as they are economical to run and heat or cool every room.

4. Ductless- In some situations you might be in need of a ductless system. If you are updating an older home that has no installed ductwork for a central air system and it is not feasible to do so a ductless system is a good choice. Similar to central air units these systems have a compressor and condenser that is located outdoors and a quiet fan and evaporator indoors. Each zone is cooled independently thereby saving you energy costs by not cooling rooms that are not occupied.

Installation

With the exception of the window and portable units, most air systems will need to be installed and maintained by a professional. Correct placement of units and routing of ductwork are imperative to your cooling unit???s longevity and efficiency. When choosing a heat and air installation company it is important that you look for a company with a long history in your community and a lot of experience with the type of unit you are looking for.
